What is (care)Free Black Man?

Edi Frutis Bishop Arts District

(care)Free Black Man is a project that asks Black Men in America to define what manhood and masculinity is to them, recount their first experiences, reflect on how society and the people in their lives affected those views and how those views have changed as they got older.

This project is important, because there are so many young black men growing up, feeling alone in their experiences. These young men need to see that there are so many ways to be a black man. They need to know that they don’t have to be anyone but themselves. They need to see that they are, indeed, allowed to be free.

To do this, I’m photographing and facilitating these tough conversations with 100 black men. These are going in a 4 book set.
